The Catalan farmhouse where cycling, yoga and farm-to-table converge.
A repurposed 17th-century farmhouse in one of the finest cycling and hiking landscapes in Europe, reimagined as a rustic luxury hideaway.
The offer here is built around movement in its fullest sense – and around food that earns its place on the table in the most literal one.
This corner of Catalonia has long been one of those places that rewards the traveller willing to look beyond the obvious. It is also one of the finest cycling and hiking landscapes in Europe.
Off Grid occupies a repurposed 17th-century farmhouse – a mas at Mas Salvanera, sitting at the base of Mare de Déu del Mont, one of the highest mountains in the Alta Garrotxa – now thoughtfully reimagined as a rustic luxury hideaway. Ten ensuite bedrooms, plus a four-bedroom barn for groups.
Movement, in its fullest sense
What distinguishes the place is that movement isn't an amenity bolted onto a hotel. It's the organising principle, and it runs in three directions.
Cycling through La Garrotxa's extraordinary volcanic terrain, supported by a proper bike workshop on site rather than a rack by the door. Yoga in a garden studio that uses the stillness of the setting as its backdrop. And hiking through a landscape shaped by ancient eruptions, where the trails are as visually extraordinary as they are physically demanding.
Food that earns its place
Threaded through all of it is a farm-to-table philosophy rooted in what the land and the season actually provide – a KM0 approach that means the menu follows the ground rather than the other way round. Breakfast is included in the standard rooms: seasonal fruit, granola, yoghurt, locally baked bread with olive oil and tomato, juice, nuts, pastries.
It is a small distinction, but a telling one. Plenty of properties describe themselves as farm-to-table. Rather fewer let the season dictate what appears.
Getting there
Girona airport is 45 minutes by car. Barcelona is two hours. And usefully – particularly if you'd rather not fly – Figueres-Vilafant TGV station is twenty minutes away, with direct connections from Barcelona, Madrid, Paris and Marseille.
